If you have the Passport (Founder's Edition) which is the older version of this device please go to this article.
Passport is a hardware device manufactured by a company called "Foundation," so the device is more commonly referred to as a "Passport" device, and less commonly referred to as a "Foundation" device.

If you've already initialized your Passport device and the private key is on it, you can skip ahead to Adding Passport to your Casa vault.
To begin, verify the integrity of the first box (the device box) to ensure that it's free from tampering.
Open the box and remove the device. You'll find the device comes with a charger. Go ahead and connect the Passport to an energy source to charge the battery.
Once the device turns on, you'll see a welcome message, press the continue button. In the next screen you'll be prompted "How would you like to set up your Passport?", select Manual Setup:
You'll now see a warning message saying "Manual setup is for advanced users who do not wish to use Envoy", press the continue button:
Here you'll be prompted to to scan a QR code that redirects you to Foundation's official setup guide (https://foundation.xyz/setup/). Feel free to navigate it for a deep-dive into the device, although this article has everything you'll need to get your device working with Casa. Press the continue button:
A warning message will appear saying "I have read and accept the Terms of Use". You can read Foundation's Terms of Use here: [https://foundation.xyz/terms-passport/]. Select Accept and press the continue button.
Now you'll see "Lets confirm Passport was not tampered with during shipping." Press the continue button.
This screen will say "On the next screen, scan the Security Check QR code." Select the continue button and the device's camera will activate.
Navigate to [validate.foundationdevices.com] where you'll see the screen below. Scroll down to the bottom and select Passport (do not select Founder's Edition).
Scan the QR code with the device's camera
After scanning the QR code, your device will show you 4 words which you will enter on on the validation site (pictured above) and click Validate. If the device is authenticated, you will see the security check results pictured below. If your Passport failed the security check, please contact Foundation directly via hello@foundationdevices.com so they can investigate.
Grab a hold of your device to see the screen with the 4 security words again and press the continue button.
Now you will be prompted to create a PIN that is 6-12 characters long.
After creating your PIN, you will be prompted "Do you want to update Passport's firmware now?". Press the continue button.
You will now be prompted "Please insert a microSD card". Before doing so, navigate to https://docs.foundation.xyz/firmware-updates/passport/ and click on Passport v.2.3.5 Download.
Please note, the version number (v.2.3.5) you see could be different if Passport published newer firmware since the this article was written.
Once you've downloaded the firmware, connect your microSD card to your computer, save the firmware file onto the microSD card, eject the card from your computer, and insert it into the Passport device.
Scroll to select the firmware file you just saved and press the continue button to update. After the update, your device will take a few moments to reboot before prompting you to enter your PIN.
The next screen will say "Next, let's create or restore a wallet seed." Press the continue button.
In a Casa vault setup, we consider retaining the seed phrase to be optional.
Users who wish to record their 24-word seed in the future can do so at any time in Settings > Advanced > View Seed Words.
Select Create New Seed and continue.
Now you'll see "Generate a new seed phrase now?". Press the continue button.
Your screen will now say "Passport is about to display your seed words and, if defined, your passphrase.". Press the continue button
A warning message will appear that says "Anyone who knows these words can control your funds. Display sensitive information?" Press the continue button
Write down your 24 seed words, double-check that they are accurate, and store them in a secure location.
If you choose NOT to retain your seed phrase, and are using this device exclusively for your Casa vault, you can just skip the seed phrase backup step.
The next screen say "Passport is about to create your first encrypted microSD backup." Press the continue button.
Now you'll see "The next screen will show you the Backup Code that is REQUIRED to decrypt the backup code." Press the continue button
Write down the 20-digit code, double-check its accuracy, complete the quiz to verify it, and store the backup in a secure location.
This microSD backup is designed to protect your private keys through a 2FA setup requiring both the Backup Password and a microSD card.
Once you complete the backup process, you will be rerouted the device home screen thats titled Account.
Scroll to the left until you see the Settings screen, scroll down and select Extensions, and toggle on the Casa extension.
That's it! Your Foundation Passport device is now set up and ready to be added to Casa.
