Ledger Bitcoin App Version Guide

Not sure if your Ledger app version works with our platform? This guide will help you quickly check where you stand and what to do next.

Check Your Firmware Version

Before checking your Bitcoin app version, confirm your device is running the required firmware. Connect your Ledger, open Ledger Wallet (formerly Ledger Live), and go to My Ledger. Your firmware version is displayed at the top of the device panel.

If your firmware is out of date, update it in Ledger Wallet under My Ledger before continuing. Firmware updates do not affect your funds or recovery phrase.

Check Your Bitcoin App Version

Once your firmware is up to date:

1. In Ledger Wallet, go to My Ledger.
2. Find Bitcoin or Bitcoin Recovery in your installed apps.
3. Note the version number listed next to the app name — for example, 2.4.2.

If you're on either of these, your setup is fully compatible. You can stop here.

Action required — Bitcoin App 2.4.3 or higher

Versions 2.4.3 and above introduced changes to how the Bitcoin app handles transaction signing that are not compatible with our wallet. To restore full functionality, you'll need to install the Bitcoin Recovery App, which is a drop-in replacement that works identically for signing transactions and registering wallets.

Note: The Bitcoin Recovery App requires Developer Mode to be enabled on your Ledger device. This simply makes additional apps visible in Ledger Wallet and is safe to enable — it does not affect your funds or security.
