Sending Ethereum (ETH) with Ledger – Temporary Workaround

If you are using a Ledger device with an Ethereum vault and have already installed Ethereum app version 1.20.1, you may encounter issues signing ETH transactions or completing health checks. There are no security concerns. This is a compatibility issue, and Ledger has provided a temporary workaround using the Eth Recovery app. Follow the steps below to sign Ethereum transactions using your Ledger device.

Temporary Workaround: Use the Eth Recovery App

Before you begin

•This workaround applies only if you have already installed ETH app version 1.20.1

•You’ll need access to Ledger Live (desktop) and your Ledger device

•The Eth Recovery app is intended as a temporary solution

Step-by-Step Instructions

1.Open Ledger Live (desktop application).

2.Click Settings (top-right corner).

3.Select the Experimental features tab.

4.Toggle Developer mode to ON.

5.Connect your Ledger device and unlock it using your PIN.

6.In Ledger Live, click My Ledger (left-hand menu).

7.On your Ledger device, approve the prompt:

“Allow a secure connection with Ledger.”

8.Once connected, Ledger Live will display:

•The App catalog

•Your currently installed apps

9.In the App catalog search bar, search for “Eth Recovery”

Tip: Search for “Eth Recovery” exactly (not “Ethereum”) for best results.

10.Install Eth Recovery app – version 1.13.0.

11.After installation, open the Eth Recovery app on your Ledger device.

•Your Ledger screen should display “Application is ready.”

You can now:

•Complete your Ethereum health check, or

Sign an outbound ETH transaction using the Eth Recovery app.

Important Notes

•The Eth Recovery app is a temporary workaround for Ethereum signing.

•You may see warning notices during transaction signing indicating this.

•After successfully signing your ETH health check or transaction, you may:

•Return to Ledger Live → Settings → Experimental features

•Toggle Developer mode OFF, if desired.

Casa and Ledger are actively working together to restore full compatibility in a future Ethereum app release.
