How to Set Up Signal on Your Phone

What is Signal?

Signal is a free, encrypted messaging app available on iPhone and Android. All messages and calls are end-to-end encrypted, meaning only you and the person you're communicating with can read them.

Step 1: Download Signal

iPhone (iOS)

1. Open the App Store
2. Search for "Signal"
3. Download the app by Signal Messenger LLC (look for the blue icon with a white speech bubble)
4. Tap Get to install

Android

1. Open the Google Play Store
2. Search for "Signal"
3. Download the app by Signal Messenger LLC
4. Tap Install

⚠️ Important: Only download Signal from the official App Store or Google Play Store. Avoid third-party sources.

Step 2: Register Your Phone Number

1. Open Signal after installation
2. Tap Continue on the welcome screen
3. Enter your mobile phone number (include your country code, e.g. +1 for Canada/US)
4. Tap Continue
5. Signal will send you a 6-digit verification code via SMS
6. Enter the code when prompted — your number is now registered

Step 3: Set Up Your Profile

1. Enter your first name (a display name is required; last name is optional)
2. Optionally, add a profile photo
3. Tap Done — your profile is ready

💡 Tip: You don't need to use your real name. A first name or alias is fine.

Step 4: Enable a Registration Lock (Recommended)

This adds an extra layer of security to your account.

1. Go to Settings (tap your profile icon in the top left)
2. Tap Account
3. Tap Registration Lock
4. Toggle it On
5. Create a PIN — store this somewhere safe. You'll need it if you reinstall Signal.

Step 5: Find & Share Your Signal Details

Before reaching out, you'll need to provide us with your Signal contact info during onboarding. Here's how to find it:

Your Phone Number The simplest option — just provide the mobile number you registered with in Step 2.

Your Signal Username (preferred — keeps your phone number private)

1. Tap your profile icon in the top left
2. Tap Username to create one if you haven't already (formatted as @yourname)
3. Copy your username and share it with our team

Your Signal Link

1. Tap your profile icon
2. Tap your username to reveal your personal Signal link (e.g. signal.me/#eu/username)
3. Copy and send that link to our team — anyone who clicks it can message you directly

💡 Tip: Using a username means you never have to share your personal phone number with us.
